News from the Networks: Kenya

In Kenya, the Talitha Kum network has been providing psychological, social, economic and spiritual support to survivors of human trafficking, many of whom were exploited while working in the Gulf and Middle Eastern countries. On September 5, 2024, alongside like-minded civil society organizations, Talitha Kum Kenya participated in the soft launch of the National Counter-Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Management System. This initiative, organized by the Kenyan Ministry of Labour and Social Protection in collaboration with Lawyers Without Borders, aimed to strengthen the national response to human trafficking. Together, we reinforced our commitment to uphold the dignity of trafficking survivors:

"The welfare of the survivors is paramount in handling their plight. Our aim is to uphold the human dignity and the holistic recovery of a person, whose very being has been shattered due to exploitative experiences they have lived,” says Sr. Laura Llanes, FdCC - the National Coordinator for Talitha Kum Kenya.

This fruitful event was a valuable opportunity to share grassroots experiences in combating human trafficking with reference to the National Referral Mechanism. The data we gathered will be crucial for the Counter-Trafficking in Persons (CTIP) Secretariat in their efforts to secure funding and ensure justice for survivors, especially given the limited resources available.
